(Atlanta,
GA) More headaches for the Buffster. It seems Buff Bagwell missed
Nitro this week due to a transportation problem, the problem is
that he caused it by missing the reserved flight and showing up
late for the last flight to Nitro's location. WCW management was
about as overjoyed about this as it was when Buffy sabotaged months
of planning and character development on the Berlyn (AKA Alex
Wright) project. Wright, who had been sidelined with a brain ailment,
was brought back as a new, original character owned by WCW. Carefully
planning would have brought this new character up through the
ranks very quickly and Dusty Rhodes, who was in charge of developing
the character, had scheduled Buff Bagwell to be first in line
in putting Berlyn over as a major player. A PPV match was build
up through the weekly TV shows, Berlyn was a major hit as far
as heel heat. The PPV date came, and Buff refused to put Berlyn
over. Buffster argued that he had more tenure than Wright and
he should be receiving the big push instead. In a brilliant move,
WCW bookers substituted Jim Duggan for Buff at the last minute,
an unprepared and upset Alex Wright faced an unprepared and upset
Duggan, it resulted in an horrible match that killed any expectation
the Berlyn character might have had. The next night, Buff was
forced to put Berlyn over on Nitro, but it was too late, Berlyn
was dead. After that incident, Buff was on the troublemakers list.
Then Russo came on board. The slate was wiped clean and shortly
after, Buff assaulted a WCW ring crew worker. Then he had a shouting
match with Terry Taylor right before Scott Steiner one-upped him
and threatened Taylor with physical harm. Now he missed a Nitro
date, and Taylor was the man booking that Nitro. It seems that
Buff's stuff is getting in trouble.
Some insiders speculate that Buff was booked in the tag match
with Booker T for a shot at Jeff Jarrett this week as a punishment,
Booker T was put over as a possible replacement for Hulk Hogan
for BATB, and Buff was left behind, some even expect Buff to be
doing the old Raven angle of "What about me, what about Buff
?" very soon and turning heel, but with no push as far as
wins go.
One thing is for sure, Buff Bagwell has a talent for getting himself
into stuff.
